Threatened species dominate in diverse forest plot, revealing urgent conservation needs.
A study in Mount Makiling Forest Reserve looked at tree species in a 2-hectare plot. They found 1,266 trees of 135 species, with 87 native, 4 exotic, and 44 endemic to the Philippines. Three main species were identified. 29 threatened species were recorded, with 7 of the top 10 species being threatened. The area showed high species richness and diversity, indicating a well-preserved forest. Spatial analysis revealed different species in different areas.
