Walnut forests in Kyrgyzstan face decline, threatening livelihoods and genetic diversity.
This study looked at how planting different crops alongside walnut trees in Kyrgyzstan can help make more money. They wanted to see which combinations of plants would bring in the most income over 20 years. By talking to local people and experts, they found that planting walnuts with other plants like apples and berries would make the most money. Growing just walnuts and making hay didn't make as much money. They also found that using timber from the trees could help make extra money until the walnuts start producing nuts. So, planting a mix of crops with the walnut trees could help people earn more money in the long run.
