New study reveals best pomegranate cultivars for longer shelf life!
The researchers studied how long pomegranate arils can last and how their chemical makeup changes over time in different Iranian pomegranate types. They stored the arils in a cold room and checked them every few days for 35 days. The shelf life of the arils varied between 7 to 21 days. Different pomegranate types had varying levels of acidity, sweetness, antioxidants, and vitamin C. Some types decayed slowly and had high acidity and antioxidants, while others decayed faster. Overall, the arils decayed more over time, but some types stayed fresh longer and had higher levels of certain compounds.
