Revolutionizing Phosphorus Recovery: Bacteria Turn Low-Grade Rocks into Valuable Resource
Scientists have found a way to extract phosphorus from low-grade phosphate rocks using special bacteria. They tested different types of these bacteria and found that Bacillus megaterium is the best at releasing phosphorus. The bacteria produce acids that help dissolve the phosphorus. They also discovered that using less phosphate rock and providing the right nutrients can improve the process. The researchers suggest using an Air Lift reactor for further experiments with Bacillus megaterium.
