Legal creation of audit committees fails to boost financial firm performance
The article examines how the creation of audit committees affects the performance of financial firms in India. The researchers looked at factors like the independence, size, and expertise of committee members, as well as how often they met. They studied 100 French companies from 2007 to 2015 and found that while the legal requirement for audit committees led to their establishment, it did not have a significant impact on the companies' performance. This could be because many companies had already voluntarily adopted audit committees before the law was passed.
