I. sanguinea identified as key player in cleaning up polluted waters
Aquatic plants can help clean up polluted water by removing excess nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus. In this study, six different types of water plants were tested to see how well they could clean up water with different levels of nutrients. The results showed that one plant, I. sanguinea, was especially good at cleaning up polluted water, while the other five plants were better suited for specific types of water. Overall, the plants were able to reduce nitrogen levels by 23-95% and phosphorus levels by 29-92%. This research can help guide the selection of plants for cleaning up polluted water in northern China.
