Sand filters were tested to see how well they remove solid waste from greywater. The researchers used artificial greywater and sand in filter columns to mimic real-life conditions. They found that the filters removed around 51-60% of solid waste and 26.8% of organic compounds. The best results were seen at a low water flow rate. The researchers also developed a formula to better predict how well the filters would work in different situations.
