Groundwater levels dropping at Hanford Site, posing contamination risks.
Ground-water monitoring at the Hanford Site in 1992 aimed to track radionuclides and chemicals from site operations. 720 wells were sampled, and water-table maps were created to understand contaminant flow. Water levels dropped in the 200 Areas and Cold Creek Valley, while levels near the Columbia River fluctuated with river stage changes. The ground-water mound beneath B Pond remained stable, but one well showed a rise. Aquifer wells north and east of the river were mainly recharged by irrigation.
