Newly Discovered Coal Seams in Banten Province Reveal Ancient Marine Influence
The Palaeogene coal deposits in Banten Province consist of three coalfields with similar properties. The coals were formed in a coastal environment and have high vitrinite content. The Bayah coals are sub-bituminous A to high volatile bituminous A, Cihideung coals are sub-bituminous A to medium volatile bituminous, and Cimandiri coals are sub-bituminous A to high volatile bituminous A. The Cihideung coals have the highest vitrinite content and rank due to intrusive activity. Most coals contain high pyrite levels, indicating marine influence during deposition.
