New method isolates plant photosynthesis complexes, paving way for cleaner energy.
Scientists have developed methods to isolate and purify photosystem II reaction center complexes from plants. They discuss the advantages and disadvantages of different procedures, including simpler methods for isolating 6-Chl and 5-Chl complexes. They also describe a rapid procedure that produces larger amounts of less pure material. Criteria for assessing the purity of these complexes are presented, along with the problems associated with each isolation procedure.
