The study looked at how adding farmyard manure and different cultivation methods affected the amount of water a sandy loam soil can hold. They found that using farmyard manure increased the soil's water capacity significantly. The way the soil was cultivated also had an impact, but not as much as the manure. Previous studies may not have seen this increase because they didn't use accurate methods to measure the soil's water-holding limits.
