Higher Vitrinite Content in Ombilin Coal Indicates Superior Quality
The Ombilin and Bayah coals were compared based on their composition and origin. Ombilin coal has more vitrinite and liptinite, while Bayah coal has more mineral matter. Ombilin coal is of higher rank (better quality) than Bayah coal. The maceral compositions of the coals differ slightly due to intrusion effects. Thermally affected coals have high vitrinite content, while unaffected coals have less vitrinite. The rank of the coals increases closer to igneous intrusions. Ombilin coal has higher vitrinite reflectance values than Bayah coal, indicating closer heat sources.
