Government Role in U.S. Mortgage Markets Set to Transform Housing Finance
The U.S. mortgage system faced challenges during the 2007-08 financial crisis, leading to debates on the government's role in it. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, two major government-backed entities, were put under federal control in 2008. This special issue explores housing finance reform through eight articles. The goal is to help create a more efficient, fair, and stable mortgage system in the future.
