New species of parasitic worms discovered in endangered kangaroo species.
New species of Coronostrongylus and Dorcopsistrongylus have been discovered in a type of kangaroo from West Papua, Indonesia. The new species of Coronostrongylus, named Coronostrongylus hasegawai, is similar to another species found in New Guinea but differs in various characteristics. The new species of Dorcopsistrongylus, named Dorcopsistrongylus supriyatnai, is unique among its relatives for not having certain intestinal features. Coronostrongylus is found in Australia and New Guinea, while Dorcopsistrongylus seems to be only in New Guinea.
