Landfill technology breakthrough slashes methane emissions, fights climate change.
The study analyzed ways to reduce methane emissions from landfills by using different technologies. By looking at methane emissions in various regions from 2001 to 2015, researchers found that emissions were increasing. However, after implementing methane reduction technology, emissions started to decrease, with the peak expected between 2026 and 2029. Different scenarios showed varying levels of emission reduction, with the SER at BE technology considered the most effective. This research can help reduce methane emissions from waste landfills and guide decisions on managing waste to lessen its impact on climate change.
