Straw mulching and herbicides boost maize yield and quality significantly.
A study was conducted to see how using straw mulch and herbicides affects the growth, yield, and quality of maize. They found that using 9.0 t/ha of straw mulch led to taller plants, more leaves, and higher grain yield compared to using less mulch or no mulch. Using 6.25 t/ha of straw mulch also resulted in better plant growth and yield than no mulch. Among herbicides, tembotrione at 0.088 kg/ha was the most effective in promoting plant growth and yield. Protein and oil content in maize grains were not affected by the different treatments.
