Boosting Nitrogen Levels in Sorghum Plants Leads to Increased Biomass
A study looked at how different levels of nitrogen in soil affect the amount of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in sorghum plants. They found that sorghum plants grew best with medium nitrogen levels. Higher nitrogen levels increased nitrogen in stems and roots, as well as phosphorus in all plant parts, but decreased nitrogen in leaves. Potassium levels in leaves and stems increased with nitrogen levels. The more nitrogen in the soil, the more nitrogen in roots and potassium in leaves and stems. However, nitrogen levels were negatively related to nitrogen in leaves. Overall, nitrogen levels were positively linked to phosphorus in plant organs.
