SWAT Model Reveals Urgent Need to Address Soil Erosion Crisis
Soil erosion is a big problem worldwide, threatening land productivity. A study used the SWAT model to predict water flow and sediment in the Changjiang River basin in China from 1980 to 2012. The model was accurate in simulating runoff and sediment levels, especially during flood seasons. Rainfall is the main cause of water loss and soil erosion in this area, with sediment making up a large portion of the total yearly output. The research shows that the SWAT model is effective for predicting runoff and sediment levels in the Changjiang River basin.
