Nigeria's Trade Flows Hindered by Cultural Differences and Distance, Boosted by Market Size
The article examines what influences Nigeria's exports to other countries from 1999 to 2012. They used data from 9 EU countries, BRICS countries, Canada, Japan, and the US to create a trade model. The results show that bigger markets and lower prices in destination countries boost Nigeria's exports. However, factors like economic differences and distance can reduce trade. Nigeria has more trade with EU countries due to cultural similarities, but less with BRICS countries. This suggests that Nigeria's exports follow a pattern based on economic and cultural factors.
