Trade Liberalization Boosts Incomes and Reduces Poverty for Tunisian Farmers
The study examines how opening up agricultural trade in Tunisia affects the well-being of poor farmers. Using a detailed economic model, the researchers looked at how changes in trade rules can lead to better technology and productivity in farming. By combining these findings with an analysis of overall economic effects, they determined that under certain scenarios, trade liberalization could directly benefit poor farmers and also impact prices and incomes. This could, in turn, help reduce poverty levels in Tunisia, as indicated by survey data on households.
