Real exchange rates in Eastern Europe defy purchasing power parity theory.
Real exchange rates in small Central and Eastern European economies do not follow the purchasing power parity theory. A special test was used to check this, and it was found that the exchange rates were not stable over time. This means that the prices in these countries are not equalizing with the rest of Europe as expected. The process of economic integration and price convergence in these countries is still not complete.
