The researchers aimed to reduce emissions and improve performance of a diesel engine by using electronic fuel injection with biodiesel made from jatropha. By adjusting injection timings and pressure, they found that advancing timing and increasing pressure can boost efficiency and decrease hydrocarbons and smoke. Splitting fuel injection into multiple stages also helps reduce NOx emissions compared to continuous injection.
