Polluted Campus Lake Threatens Student Health and Environment
Surface water quality in Varsity Lake at University Malaya was assessed to improve water management. The study analyzed various parameters like oxygen levels, nutrients, heavy metals, and pollutants in the lake and nearby rivers. Results showed that the lake had better water quality than the rivers, with lower metal concentrations. The Pantai River had the highest levels of lead, cadmium, and copper, while the Anak Air Batu River had the highest iron content. Overall, the lake was classified as Class II water quality, while the rivers were Class III. This research helps in understanding the differences in water quality between the lake and rivers, highlighting the need for sustainable water management practices.
