A Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is a tool for environmental governance. It helps evaluate proposed policies and programs to protect the environment. The SEA in Ukraine has focused on Development Strategies in certain regions, but there are issues with understanding natural resources and ecosystems. The concept of ecosystem services (ES) is important for SEAs, as it studies how ecosystems benefit people. Different projects like the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment and The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity help classify ecosystem services. Ecoregions, like forests and steppes, are key areas for SEA and environmental management in Ukraine.
