They found that the usual rule about unemployment and economic growth didn't apply in China during this time. Increases in unemployment didn't have a big impact on how fast the economy grew. But when the economy grew faster, unemployment went up the next year. This shows that the economy's growth rate affects how many people are unemployed in China.
