Wheat farmers in Iran beat heat stress, boost crop yields with strategic planting
Heat stress can harm wheat crops in warm areas like Iran. To see how heat affects wheat, a study was done in Moghan. Different planting dates and wheat types were tested. Early planting gave more grain, but late planting had less disease. Karim, Arta, and Chamran wheat did best in both early and late planting. Late planting reduced plant and straw yield. Early planting had more grains per spike. Late planting had fewer days to heading and pollination. More grains per spike meant more grain yield.
