The article presents a framework called PROE to help engineering students improve their research skills through active learning. The framework focuses on purpose, research, outcome, and evaluation to guide students in designing and evaluating research projects. By using PROE, students can develop not only technical skills but also higher-order competences like alignment and adjustment. The researchers found that implementing PROE led to positive effects on student learning, as shown by personal observations, course evaluations, and student research projects. This framework can enhance research activities in engineering education and improve both students' and lecturers' learning experiences.
