Dense planting boosts rice yield and efficiency under low light stress
Dense planting with reduced nitrogen levels can boost grain yield and nitrogen use efficiency in hybrid rice varieties, even under low light conditions. In experiments with two rice varieties, dense planting with less nitrogen resulted in higher grain yield and better nitrogen use efficiency compared to sparse planting with high nitrogen levels. The dense planting method also increased nitrogen recovery and retention rates, while decreasing nitrogen loss. These findings show that using dense planting with reduced nitrogen can improve rice production and nitrogen efficiency, regardless of light conditions.
