Missing Nutrients Decrease Rice Yield in Bangladesh, Threatening Food Security
The study looked at how missing important nutrients affects the yield of rice in Bangladesh. Researchers studied the impact of not having enough nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulfur, and zinc on rice production. They found that when these nutrients were missing, the rice yield decreased by around 11.6% for nitrogen, 7.0% for phosphorus, 10.6% for potassium, 1.1% for sulfur, and 3.4% for zinc compared to when all nutrients were present. The study also showed that using a balanced fertilizer with all these nutrients led to higher photosynthetic rates in the rice plants, which is important for their growth. In conclusion, using a balanced fertilizer is crucial for maintaining soil fertility and increasing rice production.
