Unsafe Drinking Water Plagues Nigerian Town, Putting Residents at Risk
Water quality in Maigatari Town, Nigeria was assessed by testing samples from boreholes and sachet water vendors. The pH, conductivity, turbidity, TDS, TSS, and microbial counts were measured. Results showed that most parameters met Nigerian standards, but some samples had slight deviations. Strong correlations were found between pH and conductivity, pH and TDS, and turbidity and total solids in sachet water. In borehole water, conductivity was strongly correlated with TDS and TSS. Recommendations were made for water vendors to improve quality and for regulatory bodies to enforce standards.
