Tree seedling aggregation threatens forest regeneration stability in China's montane region.
Researchers studied how tree seedlings are distributed in a forest in China. They found that most tree species were grouped together at close distances, but this pattern decreased as the distance increased. At larger scales, tree species were more randomly distributed. The way tree seedlings were grouped together was influenced by how seeds spread and the different habitats in the forest. The close grouping of tree seedlings also affected how different species interacted with each other in the forest.
