Indian Coal Seams Hold Key to Clean Energy Future
Coal bed methane (CBM) is a clean energy source found in coal seams. Researchers studied Indian coal seams to understand their gas permeability and stress-strain behavior. By analyzing various coal parameters, they found that reducing pressure in coal beds releases methane gas, which can be extracted for energy and used for CO2 storage. The mechanical properties of coal affect gas flow, so it's crucial to evaluate these parameters accurately for efficient methane recovery and CO2 injection. The study focused on coal from the Jharia coal field, showing it to be medium to low volatile bituminous coal.
