Deforestation in Brazil Increases Flood Risks and Soil Erosion.
Land-use changes in the Upper Grande River Basin in Brazil were studied using the SWAT model. Different scenarios were tested, including deforestation and reforestation. Deforestation led to increased runoff and peak flow, while reforestation decreased these factors. Overall, land-use changes can have both positive and negative impacts on water resources, with potential benefits like reduced surface runoff and increased baseflow, but also risks such as soil erosion and flooding.
