New herbicide mixtures offer effective control of invasive honey mesquite.
A herbicide called clopyralid was found to be the most effective in controlling honey mesquite plants in the field. Mixtures of clopyralid with picloram or triclopyr were just as good at controlling the plants as using clopyralid alone. Other mixtures like picloram + 2,4,5-T or triclopyr + dicamba were not as effective. In greenhouse experiments, mixtures of clopyralid with 2,4,5-T, picloram, or triclopyr were highly effective at controlling honey mesquite. Mixtures of 2,4,5-T + picloram, 2,4,5-T + triclopyr, or triclopyr + picloram also worked well at lower application rates.
