Soil tillage in vineyards causing significant erosion threat, study finds.
Soil erosion in semi-arid vineyards can be caused by both water and tillage. A study looked at how shallow tillage affects soil erosion in a vineyard. They used a tracer to track soil movement after tillage. The results showed that tillage caused an annual erosion rate of 9.5 Mg ha−1year−1 in the vineyard. This means that tillage can contribute to soil degradation in vineyards.
