Glass used as a cover for solar cells can get damaged by moisture and heat. When soda-lime glass was exposed to high humidity and heat, it became less transparent. On the other hand, borosilicate glass didn't change much in transparency. This means that soda-lime glass is not a good choice for covering solar cells.
