Traditional Indonesian peanuts offer high yield, omega-3, and disease resistance.
The researchers studied 35 traditional peanut cultivars from Indonesia to learn more about their characteristics. They looked at the plants' appearance and chemical makeup over five planting seasons. Different growing seasons affected the peanuts' traits. By analyzing the data, they found distinct differences between the cultivars, including some with high yields and beneficial fatty acid content. Certain cultivars also showed resistance to a harmful bacteria. This research helps in preserving the genetic diversity of peanuts in Indonesia and identifies potential candidates for future breeding programs.
