Benthic Diversity Reveals Hidden Ecosystem Treasures in Gorja Lake
The researchers studied the benthic diversity in Gorja Lake near Bhadrawati town in Maharashtra, India. Benthic organisms are those that live at the bottom of water bodies like lakes and rivers. They found 34 different species of benthic organisms in the lake, with some being immobile while others move around or burrow in the mud. The types and quality of aquatic plants in the lake also influenced the variety of animals found at the bottom. This study gives insight into the diverse life forms that exist in the lake's ecosystem.
