Cotton yields soar with strategic planting patterns in China's Yellow River Valley.
Cotton plants grow differently depending on how they are planted with wheat. In a study in China, planting cotton alone or with wheat in rows captured more sunlight than planting cotton after wheat. Cotton plants in rows with wheat had more bolls at the top, while cotton planted after wheat grew faster. However, planting cotton alone produced the most cotton and heavier bolls. Understanding how cotton grows in different planting setups can help improve cotton production.
