The study looked at deforestation in Riau Province using land cover data and Geographic Information System. They found five different types of deforestation profiles, with the most common being Large-Lately-Low Deforestation. This means that in Riau Province, deforestation mostly happened in large forest areas during the second period of observation at a high rate. Riau Province has the highest forest area in Sumatra, but also the highest rate of deforestation.
