Conservation tillage boosts crop yield and water efficiency in arid Iran.
The study compared different ways of preparing soil for growing wheat in Isfahan, Iran. They looked at traditional plowing, reduced plowing, and no plowing at all. The researchers found that the method of preparing the soil didn't affect how much wheat was grown, but it did impact how well the seeds sprouted and how many plants grew. They also found that reduced plowing used water most efficiently, while no plowing left the least plant material behind. Overall, the new ways of preparing the soil could be good alternatives to traditional plowing, with some adjustments.
