Colorful light exposure boosts plant antioxidants for healthier, nutrient-rich produce.
Manipulating the color of light plants receive can affect their growth and quality. In this study, young Cichorium seedlings were exposed to different color shades to see how it affected the levels of certain compounds in their leaves. Plants exposed to orange light had higher levels of specific compounds, while those under blue light had lower levels of others. Red light led to an increase in certain derivatives. Overall, the color of light during early growth phases influenced the accumulation of various compounds in the leaves, showing how plants can adapt to different light environments.
