Economic sanctions prove ineffective in changing policies of targeted countries.
Economic sanctions are used by countries to show disapproval of another country's policies. However, research shows that sanctions are not very effective in making the targeted country change its ways. Even though sanctions were quickly imposed on Russia for taking Crimea, there is no sign that Russia will give it back. The global economy makes it harder for sanctions to work well because countries are so interconnected. It's tough to find products to sanction without hurting the countries that impose the sanctions.
