The article examines if joining the EU helped 11 Central and Eastern European countries grow their economies and catch up with Western Europe. They found that these countries did indeed get closer to Western Europe's economic level. Factors like more economic freedom, better governance, market reforms, EU funds, and increased trade and investment played a big role in boosting their GDP.
