Lime application could transform soil quality in Bangladesh's tea estates.
Soil samples from Fullbari Tea Estate in Bangladesh were analyzed for their sand, silt, clay content, organic matter, acidity levels, and cation exchange capacity. The study found that the soils had varying levels of sand (61.25-74.75%) and clay (12.75-23.75%), with organic matter ranging from 0.56 to 1.65%. The acidity levels were also different, with active acidity between 4.05 to 4.66 and reserve acidity from 3.46 to 3.94. The difference between reserve and active acidity varied from -0.52 to -0.85. Cation exchange capacity ranged from 11.04 to 23.90 cmol c Kg -1. The researchers suggest that applying lime could help improve the soil's chemical properties in the area.
