Unstable Soil in Southwestern Nigeria Calls for Specialized Building Foundations.
A study was done along Ado-Afao road in Nigeria to check the soil for building structures. They used a method called Vertical Electrical Sounding and found different layers underground. The top layer is clay and sand, the next layer is laterite, and below that is more clay and sand. The deepest layers are fractured rock. The top layer isn't good for building on, but the laterite or rock layers are better. The ground is not very stable, with uneven layers and cracks. To build safely, they recommend using the laterite or rock layers with pile foundations. It's important to consider the type of soil, clay content, and elevation when building in the area.
