Land cover changes threaten biodiversity in Loess Hilly Region by 2020.
The study examined changes in land cover and biodiversity in Pengyang County from 1995 to 2015. Using satellite images and field data, researchers found significant shifts in land use, with urban areas expanding and natural grasslands changing. Biodiversity function improved over time, reaching its peak in 2015. Predictions for 2020 show further changes in land cover, with biodiversity function continuing to increase. The best habitat for biodiversity conservation was identified as mixed forestland of shrub and grass. Implementing ecological restoration strategies, such as soil and water conservation projects, has shown significant positive effects in the region.
