New method revolutionizes modeling extreme events with tied data sets!
Extreme events, like really high or low values, are important to identify for analysis. A method called maximum product of spacing (MPS) is good at this, but it struggles when there are ties in the data. This article found a way to improve MPS for data with ties by determining an optimal threshold. By doing this, they were able to get better parameters for extreme events. They used the Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD) to identify extreme values. This new method will help statisticians in different sectors better model extreme events with ties.
