A new water purification method using multiple stage filtration technology was tested at Giza Water Treatment plant. By combining Roughing Filter and Slow Sand Filter, the system effectively removed high levels of contamination, with a 90-99% reduction in turbidity. The Roughing Filter contributed 77% to the overall turbidity removal, while the Slow Sand Filter contributed 19%. The system can handle turbidity levels up to 30 NTU and produce clean water with less than 0.5 NTU. To maintain efficiency, the Slow Sand Filter should be cleaned every two months to prevent clogging.
