Government policies can transform rural energy consumption in China.
Rural households in China use different types of energy like coal, LPG, electricity, and biomass. Older, healthier household heads use less coal. Families with off-farm jobs, education, and more people use more LPG and electricity. Wealthier households use less biomass. To help rural households use cleaner energy, the government should reduce poverty, give subsidies for modern equipment, promote renewable energy, and invest in education.
